Umbria, right in the heartland of Italy, is often thought of as the gentle sister of Tuscany. It's rolling hills shelter dozens of wonderful little medieval villages, clusters of terracotta houses surrounding delightful little squares. To the west, Umbria rises to the mountains of the Monti Sibillini National Park. It's most famous city, Assisi is where St. Francis, patron saint of all animals, was born.
