Knock Museum documents the story of the Knock Apparition of 1879 and places it in the context of life at that time.
On the 21st of August 1879, Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist appeared at the south gable of Knock Parish Church. The apparition was witnessed by fifteen people, young and old. From this miraculous occurrence, Knock has grown to the status of an internationally recognised Marian Shrine.
The cottage was the scene of the last eviction in Belcarra, where a family of nine were evicted by the Landlord's agents, the infamous Gardiner, Pringle and Cuffe on Saturday October 2nd 1886.
A remarkable example of one man's deep love for his wife, this tiny R.C. chapel on Bridge Street in Carrick is the smallest in Ireland and reputedly the second smallest in the world.
Irish poet W.B. Yeats chose the tiny churchyard as his final resting place. He wanted to lie beneath Benbulben in eternity.
Kiltimagh Station came into being in 1894, initially on the main Athlone/Sligo line, later incorporated into the Limerick/Sligo line. The first engine was the famous Castle Hackett.
Located at the Yeats Memorial Building, Hyde Bridge, Sligo, Sligo Art Gallery was founded in 1977 under the auspices of the Yeats Society to provide exhibition facilities for all art forms.
