Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, a reporter who covered the 1924 murder trials of Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner. Using true events in 1920’s Chicago, the show tells the tale of night-club singer Roxie Hart as she fights to keep from death row after killing her lover. Along the way she meets her cell block rival, Velma Kelly, and smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn.
